Tai Chi - The Container

WHAT IS TAI CHI ??

Tai Chi is "Chinese Yoga", an ancient Taoist martial art that was developed to aid the progress of spiritual enlightenment. Based on the Taoist philosophy of being in harmony with our own nature and our surroundings. The benefits of Tai Chi are many: good health, clarity of mind, inner peace, harmony, self realization and self defense.

(Tai Chi is sometimes referred to as a long flowing chi kung dance)

HOW DOES IT WORK ??

By Relaxing. Without relaxation nothing is possible to change, if we could truly relax, 95% of our problems would be solved.

WHAT IS RELAXATION ??

All Tai Chi movements and forms are cleverly devised to keep us balanced in our center so that when outside forces come at us, instead of resisting, we move with that force and redirect it to our advantage.

By relaxing the body and limbs: keeping the body, legs and arms soft and open, rather then keeping them tight or rigid, the free flow of chi will flow easily through the body.

Think of a twisted garden hose. The twist will stop the flow of chi (energy) from going through it, making it not function properly.

When the hose has no stress or twists along it, everything is able to move more freely. Imagine this openness and relaxation in the body and limbs while doing the postures.

Harmony has oneness and unity. Union has no division, without division there are no struggles, or conflicts.

The softness, lightness, gracefulness, poetry and perfect coordination of all movements reflect the internal and external integration of body, mind and soul.

This integration harmonizes us with the universe and gives us peace.

Tai Chi is like a spring being wound and slowly released and wound and released again. This is Tai Chi basic principle.

One learns that there is a peace and bliss that pervades the whole of existence that can be experienced through the silence of Tai Chi.
